In the busy world we live in, there is no luxury quite like breakfast in bed. As mattress-makers, we are obviously even more in favour of this, and would highly recommend the Drift mattress to snuggle up on with a cuppa and your favourite brekkie (we’re definitely not biased). To celebrate the new age of the breakfast-in-bed, we’ve rounded up some recipes of how locals around the world do it.
Here at Drift, where we create a mattress wholly in Britain, from the farm to your doorstep, we will not hear a bad thing said about a good old fry-up.
UNITED KINGDOM: The Full English
Traditionally consisting of bacon and eggs, the accompaniments to this delightful dish vary depending on whereabouts in the UK you’re from. However, its prime ingredients include sausage, grilled tomato, mushrooms, toast, and baked beans.
NORWAY: The Smoked Salmon Omelette
Fish is an all-time favourite for Norwegians, and can be part of every meal. The huge salmon farming industry in Norway means that smoked salmon, or ‘røkt laks’ in Norwegian, is a typical ingredient in their breakfast.
Shakshuka is a classic Middle Eastern recipe, made popular in England by chef Yotam Ottolenghi. It’s a one-pot recipe, consisting of sautéed vegetables, tomatoes, spices and eggs, which are baked together in a saucepan. Hearty, spicy, and cheap.
JAPAN: Breakfast-fried rice
Rice is the primary crop in Japan and is also the primary base for meals – often, breakfast consists of leftover rice from the night before but can be mixed up with green onions, sesame seeds, and even grilled fish.
MEXICO: Huevos Rancheros
Literally meaning ‘ranch eggs’, Huevos Rancheros consists of fried eggs served on hot corn tortillas and smothered in a cooked salsa. You can also add treats like refried beans, guacamole and sour cream to make it a more delightful affair.
AUSTRALIA: Bircher Muesli
Bircher Muesli is a popular go-to breakfast for Australians because it’s high in fibre and provides heaps of energy for the rest of the day. Mix it with dried figs, sun dried raisins, sunflower seeds, cinnamon and almond milk to give you that extra-special morning buzz.
In a true American style, stacking your pancakes until they topple over and drowning them in maple syrup is not only indulgent but also super delicious. For the real heart-attack effect, try chocolate chips in the batter and a scoop of ice cream on top. We wouldn’t say no!
So however you like your eggs, reclaim your morning and indulge yourself with a breakfast-in-bed treat on your new Drift mattress. Mmmmmm.
Sleep well, live well.
